Getting ready for your photoshoot in the valley of North East Connecticut? Here are my 5 favorite out door locations and some features about each that I know you'll love as much as I do!
Getting the perfect shot means more than, posing confidently and wearing cute clothes. Don't get me wrong, those are very important and you can achieve amazing photos with just that. But having a location that reflects who you are in your photos or a background that ties in your families personality together, can really make your photos stand out and your memories that more intimate.
If you are an adventure seeker looking for unique portraits or a mom planning her next fall family photo, these locations may speak to you!
The Thompson Dam Located in Thompson CT is not only a historical park with beautiful stone walls and a few old foundations spread throughout the 2.5 mile park.
There are lots of trails that can be explored for perfect tree framing cut outs, lake reflecting backdrops, and a wide variety of rolling fields that host fantasy like trees.
My favorite time to shoot at the Thompson Dam is just before and during golden hour. The wide open fields leave room for timeless lens flares while the shady tree areas allow for golden sun rays to elevate the romance.

Summer hours - 5pm - 8pm
Fall hours 4pm - 6pm
If you have done an out door session with me in Windham County CT there is a good chance our session was held at this hidden gem.
Red Iron bridge, Flowing river, a Beautiful red barn accompanied by a stone building set back in the woods.
Mashmuqet in Pomfret CT is perfect for the updated yearly family & school photos. It has also been my favorite place for spooky Halloween sessions!
If your booking your own boudoir session and want to take things outdoors, Ya girl has secured private access to a beautiful water opening that allows our nature loving girls to embody their inner Persephone.

Times I prefer to shoot
early morning or 3pm - 5pm.
Golden hour isn't the easiest to capture at this location as it sits in a low valley between two large hills & the sun is quickly blocked by towering trees.
Cat hallow is a quaint park located in Killingly CT that stretches from the quiet woods of Cook hill RD to the hustle of highway 395.
Its parking is limited but there are 2 parking lots on either side of the short path.
Conveniently paved making it easy for strollers & handicap assessable to beautiful fall foliage or budding greenery in the spring!
My favorite part of cat hallow is it happens to be the only one on this list with a Beautiful bonsai tree that over looks the Whetstone Brook that flows parallel to the walking path.

Due to it being mainly covered by trees and lots of shade. Morning & high noon sessions are usually booked here.
The first 3 locations have been amazing photo ops for family, foliage, and casual sessions. However, Diana's pool - still embodying the outdoors & nature offers a bold and daring tone.
hose looking for more of an adventurous session. Instead of rolling fields and whimsical trees. Diana's Pool offers tall boulders that host the Nanchang river carving pools and unique areas to utilize for the perfect photo op.
Parking here is extremely limited especially on sunny warm days.

Typically early summer to mid fall
With a wide rage of open and tree covered spaces, anytime of day until sunset is open for the perfect shoot!
4pm being the most popular!
Last but certainly not least. Devils Hop Yard elegantly ties nature, beauty, and bold adventure all into one stunning location that doubles as a camp ground.
My favorite feature is probably the most popular reason people come to this park, to scale & swim at the 60 foot water fall!
Devils Hop Yard has small fields for those wide family shots, intimate caves to bring a bit of drama & mystery to your session, wooden bridges, and tree covered trails making this the perfect location for almost all sessions.
